Stage and screen actress June Havoc was playing the role of Malitza in The Merry Widow. That summer she was The Muny’s “stock actress and understudy.” Ms. Havoc was the younger sister of burlesque queen Gypsy Rose Lee, and was the "real" June in the musical Gypsy.
