One of The Muny’s biggest news stories this winter was not a happy one.  The elegant terrazzo that had graced the Muny Box Office since 1971 was destroyed by a water main break early this year.

To insure the structural integrity of the surrounding structures, it was necessary to remove the terrazzo completely, and to reroute the water pipe.  This summer, Muny-goers will see a plain, cement floor at the box office window.

That’s the bad news.

The good news is that the terrazzo will be replaced, updated and somewhat re-imagined for the 21st century, and back where it belongs for the 2011 season.

The installation of the new terrazzo and all costs associated with repairs were underwritten by the Marilyn Schnuck Charitable Trust.  The gift is in honor of Edward Schnuck, Mrs. Schnuck’s late husband. Edward Schnuck was a Muny Board member from 1973-1986, and served as Board President in 1982 and 1983.

The Muny and thousands of Muny-goers are grateful to the Marilyn Schnuck Charitable Trust for replacing what is a treasured piece of The Muny and its history.
